"Heroes of the Past”

Dear Parents,
Who can dispute the value of a good story? Though students may initially
view them as dull, biographies are the “stuff” that great classroom activities
are made of -- history, honesty, and heroism.
Our social studies curriculum covers the early colonial period through the
Revolutionary War. We have compiled a list of individuals, from our fifth
grade curriculum, which students may choose from. Each student will select
a person from this list to study and write about. During the next few weeks
in class, the students will work on writing a biography.
This project will end with a culminating activity entitled,
The Living Wax
Museum
. The students will represent their hero through costume, props,
and mannerisms. Students will pose as these heroes, in absolute silence, for
the Alexander Dawson community to see. It will be something you will never
forget!
After our classroom discussion, your child has selected________________
to research and portray in our Wax Museum. If you need any assistance in
planning a costume, please let us know.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Julie Tognoni
